The city of Bergen was founded in 1070 as Bjørgvin and served as the Norwegian capital until the year 1370. Bergen was an important member of the Hanseatic League from the 1300s to the 1700s and has since been a center for Shipping and Trading based activities.
In the 1600s the city was considered to be, by far, the largest in the north with about 15.000 inhabitants.
Today that number would place it as the 35th largest city in Norway.
With its present head count of about 300.000, it might be considered as a sizeable neighborhood in some countries.
However, that will not let us forget the following about our neighborhood; the city’s low average temperature and in general stable weather with about 250 days of the year with rain.
Today, Bergen remains one of the leaders in the maritime industry and at BlueShip Chartering, we proudly strive to carry on the tradition as a value adding participant serving the shipping industry.
